The Cleaver Lecture in Religion and Public Life was established in 1999 by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce, business community, and other friends, in honor of Emanuel Cleaver II and his two terms on the board. It builds upon Mayor Cleaver’s work in making Kansas City a model of civic life infused with those religious values shared by many traditions that make for tolerance, inclusiveness, justice, and the well-being of all citizens. Lectures engage the community on matters of public service, policy, and debate.
