COMMUNITY LIFE

Spiritual Formation

Because the mission of Saint Paul School of Theology is to prepare leaders for the church, it is crucial that the spiritual foundations for that leadership be developed within the life of the seminary community.

To this end, the Dean of the Chapel, chapel intern, spiritual formation student coordinator, and the Formation and Worship Committee play lead roles in providing a variety of opportunities for spiritual formation. Spiritual formation is incorporated into many classroom experiences.

Worship

Kresge Chapel stands at the center of the Saint Paul campus, and worship is a central part of our lives together. Two mornings each week members of the community gather in the chapel for worship.

Leadership for these services is provided by a variety of persons, including students, faculty, staff, graduates, and area clergy, with careful attention to offering a diverse range of worship styles.
Eucharist is celebrated on campus several times each week. The Saint Paul Choir, the Gospel Choir, and a liturgical dance group enhance many chapel services. Called to Worship, a student group gathered around "contemporary" praise and worship, leads the music in chapel once every other week. Other forms of worship and art also enrich our spiritual lives. Evening prayers, early morning devotions, Taizé services, and special occasions offer opportunities for additional times of worship. To view the chapel schedule, click on Calendar.

Covenant Groups

Saint Paul offers students a variety of covenant groups to nurture and strengthen their spiritual lives. Some students gather to follow the discipline of Covenant Discipleship groups, which support and hold one another accountable in their spiritual journeys. Other students find it nourishing to form covenants with groups related to their denominations or other programs. The spiritual formation student coordinator and Formation and Worship Committee help structure and promote these groups.
