The Master of Arts (Theological Studies), MA(TS), is a 60 credit hour degree in religion and theology designed to be an academic concentration for persons intending further graduate study with the goal of a demonstrated capacity for scholarship within a defined field of study or a general program of graduate theological studies for laypersons desiring to strengthen the religious basis of their lives and work with the goal of demonstrated knowledge of general theological studies
Degree Requirements
The MA(TS) program requires the focused study of a theological discipline in depth and in the context of broader theological disciplines, a summative evaluation, and the study of languages as appropriate. Upon satisfactory completion of 10 credit hours, students may formally request one of five concentrations for in-depth academic research.
Advanced Placement
Students completing a MDiv degree with a GPA of 3.0 or higher from an ATS accredited school (including Saint Paul) may qualify for advanced placement. Advanced standing means that students may complete the MA(TS) degree program with 30 credit hours of upper level courses and a summative evaluation as long as both degrees are completed within six years. Students with advanced placement must complete 15 credit hours within their concentrations while at Saint Paul.
