50th Anniversary Pictorial History
Celebrating 50 Years: Saint Paul School of Theology is a pictorial history of Saint Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, Missouri. A seminary of the United Methodist Church, Saint Paul began its first classes in September 1959. This book relates the history of the Saint Paul campus, beginning in 1904 when Fisk Deaconess and Bible Training School moved to the campus from Kansas City, Kansas. The school became Kansas City National Training School for Deaconesses and Missionaries and, later, National College.
The story continues to the 1950s when the need for a seminary of The Methodist Church in the Kansas City area became evident. In 1958 the seminary, then called National Methodist Theological Seminary, was founded--a seminary without faculty, students, or buildings. By fall of 1959 classes began with five faculty members and fifty-two students. The story follows the seminary as it opened on the National College Campus, moved to Cherry Street near the University of Kansas City, and back to the National College Campus. A cooperative enterprise merger between the Woman's Division of The Methodist Church, National College, and Saint Paul School of Theology created a seminary with a charge to educate leaders, both women and men, for the church.

As the story continues to the present day, it covers times of struggle and of growth, times of challenge and of accomplishment. Today Saint Paul is one seminary with two campuses, one in Kansas City and one at Oklahoma City University. Rooted in the Wesleyan tradition and committed to inspiring passion for ministry in diverse Christian bodies, Saint Paul remains committed to educating leaders to make disciples for Jesus Christ, renew the church, and transform the world.
